Do you want to build a better relationship with your child? Do you think you're over-protective of one and careless of the other? Do you listen to all side of stories before discipling them, or you just take action?

If you were searching for great advices on how to raise children properly, then keep reading the top 5 parenting tips for fathers:

1. Play with your child

When you play with your child, particularly with boys, they will simply love you for taking out time for them. The game could anything simple, like playing a basketball, or a board game, or simply chasing around the park.
Remember, when you play with your child, you are actually spending quality time with them, and that's what a child want.

2. Read with your child

Kid love learning. And books are the best way to learn. So, read books (stories) to your child. When they grow up, they will also develop love for reading books. But children may fall into habit of reading only specific type of stories, though. Try picking up variety of genre for them to read. Although they won't like this at first, slowly they will. The main point is to make them read variety of books often and early as possible.

3. Change their (child's) diapers

I don't have any clue as to why many men are hesitant to change the diapers of their child. Ever since my first was born, I have been changing their diapers. Yes, it smells, and it is also messy. But you will still survive. Above all, your partner (wife) will be thankful for you if you help her out.

4. Be gentle, yet firm

Now and then, every kid will need to be disciplined. Start early! Both parents, and not just the father, needs to instill discipline in their child. As parents, decide on what needs to be disciplined, and how. Be firm. Your kids, particularly as they become older, will test you. At this time, if you aren't firm, they won't obey you. But don't be harsh, though. Insetad, be gentle. Kids are what they are, fragile. We aren't suggesting not spanking them, but if a one or two swats can do the trick to get their attention, that would be enough.

5. Listen to all the stories

Before taking any decisions, make sure you hear each side of the story. Arguments will erupt between your kid and others, cousins and siblings. Gather them all and listen to each side of the stories. This will help you understand what had actually happened. You will now be clear as what to do next.

6. Be fair

Oftentimes, when you listen to one child, you will also have to listen to the other too. If you discipline one, you will also need to discipline the other. You listen to both and take appropriate action. Be fair, though. If you have more than one child, you need to make sure everyone gets equal treatment. At times, you may have to pay attention to one (an infant) than the other (the one who can fend for themselves partially). Don't overdo it, though. Just find equal time to do along with them and remain fair with all you children, all the times.

7. Learn cooking with them
Few men shun the kitchen for cooking. For example, they sit back and let their partner (wife) do all the cooking to prove they aren't fit for the job. If they do cook, they will only do the grill. Not only cooking at kitchen lets your wife take a break, but also show your kids that men can actually cook.
