Parenting in the modern world has proved a challenge to both the parent and the child. There are many factors that are prevalent in the modern society that influence the behavior of our children especially during their teen years. For instance, the influence of modern cultures, the media (social, print and electronic), modern role models in the entertainment and fashion industry challenges the favored conventional parenting skills. Equally, this has contributed to the emergence of difficult teenagers in many families as well as in the society. In short, even if parents are in a position to effectively influence the well-being of their teenagers, their ability to do so is limited by the presence of too little helpful information and by too much misleading information. Nonetheless, there exists a significant opportunity to improve the outcomes for adolescents by providing more and better resources within the media for parents of difficult teens, as well as other stakeholders in the parenting role. man-258449_640

Parenting difficult teenagers is aimed at attaining two key factors namely; healthy physical development and positive behavioral outcomes. However, it should be recognized that every child is different and raising them therefore varies. Difficult teenagers' behavior is as a result of emotional imbalance or better yet poor upbringing from their early life. Equally, most scholars in parenting matters agree that there is no single right way of raising difficult teenagers. One of the most powerful forces that influences the parenting role of difficult teenagers is the set of thoughtful developmental changes that they experience. Difficult teenagers need to acquire and apply abstract thinking skills, identify expressive moral standards, values, and beliefs, establish key identity aspects, develop and apply new coping skills in areas like conflict resolution, decision making, and problem solving. Moreover, they should be able to adjust to their sexually maturing bodies and feelings in addition to meeting the demands of their increasingly mature roles and responsibilities. Thus, they need to be able to renegotiate relationships with adults in parenting roles.

To sum it up, parenting difficult teenagers should be aimed at enhancing positive social changes while at the same time eliminating the negative social changes. Secondly, it should be directed towards supporting their emotional changes and showing them how to cope. Third, difficult teenagers parenting should be directed towards supporting their relationships so that they do not fall into bad company or choices. Therefore, the parent of difficult teenagers must act as a perfect role model, be able to listen and support them and know their friends and be able to advise them during difficult times.
